Foraging Through the Eyes of a Pioneer at Kehl Lake Natural Area

Saturday, July 31st | 10:00am

Picture yourself and your family arriving in Leelanau a few hundred years ago for the summer harvest or for year-round living.  What would be your first order of importance?  Locating water, food, safe shelter and then what?  It’s the same for the wildlife that lived and still live at Kehl Lake Natural Area. If your food came from foraging and hunting would you know what is edible?  We’ll take a hike through this amazing, historical natural area while envisioning solutions to a low consumptive, high satisfaction, sustainable lifestyle shared by Kehl’s early residents…human and otherwise.  Join docents Ann McInnis, Bert Thomas, Mary Tris, Beth Childs, and docents in training Dave Watkins and Gloria Garrett in a fun and educational hike.
