Search for the Michigan Monkey Flower at Hatlem Creek Preserve

Saturday, July 20th | 10:00am

What we can guarantee if you join us on July 20 at 10am: a graceful bubbling marl spring, flowing streams, 11 species of ferns, and no crowds.

Docents Sharon Oriel, Karl Hausler, and Shelley Yeager will join you in looking for the Michigan monkey flower which is only found in a few places in the state. You will learn how this preserve contributes to keeping Glen Lake healthy and see some glacial geology. There is no formal trail system so bring walking sticks (if you find them helpful) and wear waterproof footwear as we will be crossing a stream/mucky place. Depending on the weather, we could also have mosquitoes.

Hatlem Creek is located at 10175 S. Plowman Rd., Glen Arbor. From Leland, take M-22 South to Maple City Hwy. (Co. Rd. 667). Head west on Burdickville Road (Co. Rd. 616). Turn left at MacFarlane (Co. Rd. 675) Turn left onto S. Plowman Road and park along the road.
