Trailbuilding Workbee at Clay Cliffs Natural Area

Thursday, June 27th | 10:00am

Join the Leelanau Conservancy and our partners at Coldwell Banker at Clay Cliffs Natural Area to assist in a project to reroute a small section of the trail system. Multiple years of runoff and erosion have transformed an area of switchback trail creating ruts and exposed tree roots that result in an unsustainable section of trail. We will reroute the trail to provide a gradual path to the lookout platform over Lake Michigan. This workbee is suitable for many ability levels. We will be providing a variety of tasks for volunteers for a range of physical activity from easy to strenuous. Tasks surrounding the trail reroute will include clearing away brush, building and leveling trail, and transplanting native plants out of the path of the proposed reroute. The work area is a 0.3 mile hike from the parking lot along a well-developed trail with an elevation gain. Please come prepared with appropriate clothing and footwear for working among vegetation and on uneven terrain.  Following the workbee, Coldwell Banker has kindly offered to grill hotdogs for lunch. We will meet in the main Clay Cliffs Natural Area parking lot along M-22 just north of Leland.
