Understanding the Forest at Houdek Dunes

When fall color season arrives in Leelanau, we think of the forests but what does the forest think of us?  Does it actually think?  “How can it think without a brain?” you might ask.  You might be surprised.  We will lightly explore questions like this and try and get a better understanding of our forests on this docent-guided hike through Houdek Dunes Natural Area.  A meandrous trail of easy-moderate terrain will take us through stands of mature trees of many varieties with several pauses along the route for discussion.  We should be back in the parking lot no later than noon and maybe earlier.  Join us!  Capped at 18.
