Carolyn joined our staff in 2002 and served as Communications Director through 2017. Carolyn focuses on continuing to tell the stories of the Leelanau Conservancy and providing content for our multi-channel communications. She also connects with longtime loyal donors to hear their stories.

Prior to joining the Conservancy, Carolyn spent 10 years at Traverse, Northern Michigan’s Magazine, where she served as Managing Editor. In 1997, Carolyn won the prestigious Ben East prize for environmental journalism for a piece on the DNR, and authored many other comprehensive environmental issue pieces. She also spent five years at the magazine in marketing and circulation, and is a 1979 graduate of M.S.U. with a B.A. in English.

She lives in Omena with her husband, Dave and has two grown sons. In addition to working three days a week at the Conservancy, she also owns and runs Omena Cut Flowers, a U-Pick flower farm.

The Leelanau Conservancy depends on the guidance of valued supporters to fulfill our mission and to evolve. We invite you to participate in a 10-12 minute online survey.
